Wide awake again? Start with a smaller sleep reset
A calmer routine can help, but persistent poor sleep deserves more than another bedtime hack.
It is tempting to overhaul everything after a bad night. Instead, choose one manageable change and notice how you feel during the day. Sleep is not a performance test.
Make the routine easier to repeat
- Aim for consistent sleep and wake times.
- Keep your bedroom quiet, dark and comfortable.
- Reduce evening screen use and leave space for a relaxing activity.
- Consider whether caffeine, nicotine or alcohol could be disrupting your nights.
Look beyond bedtime
Pain, stress, medicines and other sleep conditions can contribute to insomnia. If sleep problems persist or affect daily life, speak with your GP. Treatment may include cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia; healthy habits are not always enough.
Bring a useful observation
Note your sleep pattern, daytime tiredness and anything that seems to worsen it. Ask: Could something else be affecting my sleep, and what treatment would fit my situation? Do not change prescribed medicines without advice. Avoid driving when sleepy.
