Getting the most from your specialist appointment
A simple checklist so nothing gets missed on the day.
Specialist appointments can feel short. A little preparation helps:
- Bring your referral (or check it was sent), your Medicare card and any private health card.
- Bring a list of your medicines, including vitamins and supplements.
- Bring recent test results, scans or letters, or ask your GP to send them.
- Write down your three most important questions.
- Bring someone with you if you'd like help remembering what was said.
Afterwards, the specialist writes to your GP. Book a follow-up with your GP to talk through the plan.
General information only, not medical advice. Everyone's situation is different, so check with your GP or the provider. In an emergency call 000.
